FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Choosing your photographer is a big decision and one I know shouldn't be taken lightly. This is why I firmly believe every couple should be given all the information needed to make this decision. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I RECEIVE?
You will receive anywhere from 75-100 images per hour of coverage at a minimum!
WILL I BE ABLE TO PRINT MY OWN PHOTOS?
Absolutely! I include a print release so you can download your own photos and print them yourself if you would like!
CAN I RECEIVE RAW IMAGES?
It is industry standard to only deliver finished photos. I only deliver images that reflect the quality and style of my work. A big part of my style is how I edit images and I am very, very, proud of the years of work and experience it took to master my skills editing my photos.
HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?
All of your images will be delivered in an online gallery available for viewing, sharing, and downloading. I don't mess with usb's or cd's over here! You can easily share your entire gallery or just a few of your favorites. Additionally, you can make favorites folders and order professional products directly from your gallery!
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?
Your images will be ready within two months! I meticulously "hand" edit each photo myself so they are absolutely perfect before I upload them to your gallery. You will also receive sneak peeks before then too!
HOW MANY OF MY IMAGES WILL BE BLACK AND WHITE?
About 10-25% of your gallery are black and white images! I think b&w images are so classic and timeless so I always provide ample amounts of these in every gallery!
DO YOU EDIT ALL OF YOUR OWN PHOTOS?
I "hand" edit all of my own photos and I could never trust anyone else to put the love and attention into my creative work. I meticulously go through each and every photo and obsess until I know it's perfect for my couples.
WILL ANY OF THE IMAGES BE WATERMARKED?
I never watermark any of my photos.
WHY DO YOU RECOMMEND A SECOND SHOOTER?
I recommend a second shooter because backup of your wedding day is priceless. I have a lengthy process that I use to make sure your day is protected but there is nothing like the added protection of an additional photographer. Also, you will have more images and different angles of your day as well. I especially recommend an additional photographer if you're planning a traditional timeline where you see each other for the first time down the aisle.
DO YOU OFFER ALBUMS?
Definitely! I offer heirloom albums with a quality you will struggle to find elsewhere. I believe these are perfect first heirlooms for your family and it's so important to me that I offer quality products that will tell the story of my couple's love and last for more than a lifetime. If you would like more information on albums you can look at that here.
CAN WE ORDER PRINTS AND CANVASES THROUGH YOU?
You can order prints and canvases directly from your gallery from a trusted, professional lab I work with. I can not recommend this method enough actually because it will give you the best possible quality available. I always tell clients to NEVER print at 1-hour photo print places because they skew colors and the quality is usually diminished heavily.
SHOULD I BOOK A BRIDAL SESSION?
You should absolutely book a bridal session if you are thinking about it. I believe every bride deserves to wear that gorgeous gown more than once and you will be so relieved to have a "test run" with all of your vendors to see your final look before the wedding. Plus, parents go crazy for pictures of their little girl in her dress if you're thinking about gifts.
WILL YOU PHOTOGRAPH MY REHEARSAL DINNER?
I can absolutely photography your rehearsal dinner! Please let me know if you would like this covered so we can discuss additional coverage and possibly a hotel if you are out of town.
WHY SHOULD I PURCHASE ADDITIONAL COVERAGE?
Having additional coverage is invaluable at wedding days. The one thing I mention to clients over and over again is how fast that day will happen. Literally it will be over in the blink of an eye. Anything you can do to slow down your day and make it as stress-free as possible is a decision you will never regret. Also, if you are a couple who is all about the reception portion of the day, you should definitely think about adding more hours to your package to have a ton of those awesome party photos!
CAN YOU PUT A HOLD ON OUR DATE?
Yes! However, I ONLY put holds on dates for three days after I've sent a booking proposal over to the potential clients. It's important to me that my couples have enough time to review the agreement and think about their decision before they book.
HOW DO WE BOOK YOU?
You can book your date with me signing an agreement and putting down your 30% retainer of the total collection cost! All booking is done online, including the signing of the agreement! After that, you and me are official baby!
DO YOU HAVE A PAYMENT PLAN?
I traditionally split the remaining 70% after the retainer is paid into three payments. Payment plans can be arranged however you see fit so just let me know what works best for you two!
HOW MUCH IS THE RETAINER AND ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL FEES?
Your deposit, or retainer, is 30% of the total collection cost. The only additional fee is my travel fee. Tax is already included in the collection cost.
DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL?
I do! Travel fees are determined by the mile but the first 50 miles are on me! I charge 50 cents a mile to your venue and back. If your wedding is more than four hours away I also charge a flat fee of $100 for a hotel.
WHEN SHOULD WE BOOK YOU?
Asap. After a couple has inquired with me and then reached out to me again to let me know they are interested in my service I will put a hold on the date for one week while they are deciding. All of my dates are first come first serve and I only photograph around 30 weddings per year to give my couples the attention they deserve.
WHY ARE ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS COMPLIMENTARY?
Engagement sessions are complimentary because I have a firm belief that your engagement session photographer and your wedding photographer should be the same person. This concept is a cornerstone of my business and it allows my couples to not only feel much, much more comfortable on their wedding day but also allows me to make magic happen during the short amount of time we have that day to get truly wonderful portraits of you two.
HOW LONG ARE ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS?
Engagements sessions last two hours! This allows plenty of time for an outfit change and traveling to an additional location if you two would like!
WHERE SHOULD WE SHOOT OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
If you two have a location in mind that means something to you I say 100% let's use that location! If you don't have anything in mind though I have a TON of location ideas and places we should go!
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR TO OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
I typically tell couples to start off with a casual outfit for the first hour and then the second hour in a dressier outfit. Casual outfits usually mean jeans for guys and cute tops for girls. More "formal" outfits typically include dresses and jackets.
IS TRAVEL COMPLIMENTARY FOR ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS AS WELL?
Because the session itself is complimentary the travel is complimentary as well up to a total of four hours there and back!
DO YOU WORK FROM A SHOT LIST?
I actually don't. I have a system in my head of how I work and working off a list can be distracting to what's truly happening and remembering to get the shots I know my couples will love. I will always, always, ask before the wedding in your questionnaire if there are a few specific shots you want. The work you have seen of mine has never been taken from a checklist and this is how I create naturally occurring, and unique work that reflects the emotion of your day.
WILL YOU HELP US WITH OUR TIMELINE?
Yes! I would LOVE to help with your timeline! I am the self-proclaimed guru of timelines actually. I work will all my couples on this crucial part of the planning process because I know how long it takes me to work and I know when the light is best to get those dreamy portraits! You can view my timeline guide here if you're interested in seeing how I recommend structuring wedding days.
DO YOU BRING YOUR OWN LIGHTING EQUIPMENT?
I absolutely do! I am kind of obsessed with my reception lighting gear! Receptions are so fun to shoot and I'm super proud of my results with the gear I have. Even though I love natural light I think it's important that photographers can confidently shoot in any lighting situation.
DO YOU TAKE POSED FAMILY PHOTOS AT WEDDINGS?
Yes! I know how important photos are of all your loved ones, especially the ones that had a long trip to come to your wedding or whom you don't always get to see. I call this portion of the day "family formals". In your questionnaire before the big day, I'll ask you to sit down with both of your mommas and talk about the groupings that mean the most. Moms are usually particular about this portion of the day so I always like to give them extra attention. On the wedding day, I already have a list that I can read from so we are completely organized and it's one less thing parents have to worry about.
WHAT IS YOUR POSING METHOD?
I believe couples need just a little bit of direction in front of the camera. It can be a nerve-wracking experience! It's so important to me that my couples feel comfortable but also know I'm doing everything I can to make sure they look and feel great too. Posing doesn't have to be weird or boring, in fact, I believe it can be a ton of fun for my couples!
DO WE NEED TO FEED YOU?
It would be super sweet of you if you did. Having a hot meal and a chance to sit down would mean the world and would keep me from eating a stale protein bar from 2017. I prefer to eat when you do because you're not usually at your most photogenic while you're eating and I know I'm not missing anything.
CAN MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TAKE PHOTOS?
While I am contractually the only photographer at your wedding I am absolutely fine with family and friends taking photos as long as they respect my presence. Portraits are the only time I would like to be alone as a photographer so we are not distracted and I can do my best work for you!
SECURITY AND ASSURANCES
DO YOU HAVE BACKUP EQUIPMENT?
Yes! I bring an ample amount of equipment with me for those just in case situations!
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU CAN'T PHOTOGRAPH MY WEDDING?
If something terrible happens and I am unable to photograph your wedding day then another photographer within my network will take over. If you have a second shooter, they will become the main photographer and every effort will be made to find a new second shooter.
HOW WILL YOU BACKUP MY IMAGES?
I have a very thorough way of backing up images for wedding days. I have a camera that supports two SD cards so whenever I take a shot, it's automatically being copied to another SD card to have extra protection against card corruption. (I have never had this happened to me but I do believe in Murphy's Law) At my office, those SD cards are stored in a fireproof safe and uploaded to my external hard drive and a cloud backup system as well. Nothing is ever deleted until I deliver the images to my clients. I also recommend my clients backup their images with the same vigor.
DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE IF MY VENUE REQUESTS IT?
Yes I do! I am more than happy to provide a copy of my liability insurance to them.
HAVE YOU SHOT AT MY VENUE BEFORE?
While I have shot at a ton of venues over the years, I sometimes get to work someplace new and that's so exciting for me! If I have not shot at your venue I do a crazy amount of research online and show up very early on the wedding day to scout out locations as well! As a professional, I don't really require shooting in a location before to feel confident working there.
WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE SHOOTING WEDDINGS AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT A WEDDING DAY?
I have been shooting weddings for quite a few years now and it is hands down my dream career because it brings so much joy and fulfillment in my life. I really can’t imagine being happier doing anything else. In fact, every time I get to photograph a bride walking down the aisle I have to stop myself from tearing up because it means so much to me to document the day two people in love promise forever to each other.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF COUPLE TO WORK WITH?
I would say my favorite couples to work with are the ones who are prepared to have a fun wedding day. They’re generally “people people”, know how to have a good time, and they have that silly/sweet/passionate love between them. They’re also the type of couple who are super go-with-the-flow and trust me 100% that I’m going to do the best possible job for them! I find these couples are usually more excited about the reception than any other part of the day and love taking fun photos with their wedding party. I love brides that have an eye for classic details and tapered candles who believe their bouquet is just as important as their stunning dress. I’ve had the pleasure of serving all types of brides and grooms but wedding days with fun couples definitely mesh with my personality and energy level!
HOW DID YOU GET INTO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?
It’s actually funny because when I first started photography I told myself I would never photograph weddings only because they seemed like a lot of pressure and that scared the heck out of me! I eventually had friends that asked me to photograph their weddings and I absolutely, head over heels, fell in love with photographing weddings. I realized not only was it beautiful and rewarding work, but it was a perfect fit for me. I’ve always performed better under pressure and weddings challenged me in a way that allowed me to not only discover my style but develop my creativity too. Now, I’m so grateful I made the switch! It’s such an honor to capture such a special day and serve my couples!
WHAT IS YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MOMENT OF THE WEDDING DAY?
I have so many favorite moments on wedding days! That’s a big part of why I love this work! But I have to say, photographing a bride walking down the aisle is one of the highlights of my life. Also, father-daughter dances make me so emotional! I can’t handle how sweet and emotional dads are when their little girl is getting married! Photographing the entire wedding party is so much fun too, I love when the bride and groom’s friends are all together and we get to take fun pictures they absolutely love. If I'm allowed to keep going though, the reception is hands down the best part of the day. Seeing my couples celebrate with all their loved ones and having the time of their life is super rewarding!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY AS A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER AND THE WAY YOU WORK ON A WEDDING DAY?
As a photographer, my main goal is to authentically capture the energy, emotion, and style of my couple's wedding day while simultaneously documenting the love and connection they share with each other and the people around them. I genuinely believe that there are times when I should remain in the background and other times when I need to step in and provide guidance to produce my best work. I know there is beauty in the natural, effortless, unplanned, moments during the wedding day but I also understand that not every couple is a model and understanding how to guide couples to look their best for portraits that feel super genuine is a skill I am very proud of. Other than creating beautiful images, my other priority is being a resource for my couples and serving them to the best of my ability. It's important to me that my couples know that not only do they have an expert they can depend on, but a friend showing up on their wedding day who is so excited to celebrate with them and have fun capturing their day!
WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?
My style is a mix of journalistic and traditional photography with a heavy emphasis on a fine art approach to the overall day. This means that while I'm always searching for the beautiful and emotional candid moments that happen on wedding days, I also include classic portraits as well. Additionally, I love incorporating the romantic, soft look of fine art photography because I love how elegant and classic it feels. On the other hand, documenting the energy and celebration of receptions is absolutely one of my favorite parts of the wedding day. I would say overall I have a very artistic, classic style that is grounded in joyful, beautiful imagery.
